Rude Neighbor...It's a Mystery?

Recently, my now-ex-husband and I informed our neighbors that we were divorcing and selling our house. Since then, the wife has been extremely rude, snubbing us and not returning waves and gollyos. Today she flat-out ignored my ex-husband when he said gollyo. She is Asian. Could it be that divorce is a cultural taboo for her, and that's why she is so rude? We can't think of anything we've done to her or her husband. Confused!!!Well, when you put a 'for sale' sign in the yard, your neighbors naturally ask questions, so we told them the reason for the move.

I think divorce is a bad thing for her and couples should not divorce.Or she heard your arguments.Or you are nor important for her; because you will go.or there is another reason.

Maybe it's the part about selling your house this lady doesn't like. Maybe she is afraid of the kinds of people that may live there next. Maybe she is against divorce. I married very young the first time and got divorced after a year. We owned our house with a widower next door. My ex told the old man that we were divorcing and one day he knocked on my door with a bible in his hand! He began lecturing me, saying he was with his wife for 50 years before she died, etc. I found a reason to shut the door and avoided him til I moved out!

She knows you're divorcing and selling your house. Maybe she's judging you and that's why she's being rude. Or maybe she just doesn't see any reason to continue exchanging pleasantries since you'll be moving away.

Could be just a personal thing, maybe she personally thinks that divorce is an awful thing or is insulted to think you'd assume she wanted to know. It's hard to say, but then there's no accounting for some people. If you simply phrased it as "fyi, we're moving", then you've done nothing wrong. Telling her about your failing marriage was probably too much information and she likely just felt offended.all you can do is just let it go, she wasn't a close friend, and you can't make her be nice, so just stop talking to her.

Is this an older couple? Some older Asian couples (Japanese and Chinese) regard divorce as a big taboo, It's all about "saving face". The older generation would rather live in misery there entire lives than to have to deal with the disgrace of divorce. Yes it could be a cultural thing.
